Experimental Study of the Influence of Intravesical Interferon-¥áon the Epithelial Regeneration of the Urinary Bladder in Rats

Abstract
The effects of interferon alpha(IFN-¥á) on regeneration of urinary bladder epithelium were studied in rats. Mucosal dendation of the bladder was induced in 18 rats by intravesical instillation of 0.1 N hydrochloride solution. Among them, 2 rats
were
sacrificed immediately and each week 2 rats were also sacrificed for 3 weeks(Group A). Intravesical instillation of IFN-¥á was performed only one time in 6 rats and each week 2 rats were sacrificed for 3 weeks(Group B). Intravesical instillation
of
IFN-¥á was performed weekly in 4 rats and they and they were sacrificed 3 weeks later (Group C). Normal bladder of 4 rats without any treatment were used as control.
Histopathological examination of the bladders under light microscope showed that complete regeneration of epithelium developed within 3 weeks after the induction of denudation of mucosa in Group A, as well as B and C. There were no differences in
the
morphological apperance and the speed of regeneration of rat bladder epithelium among Group A, B and C. these results suggest that IFN-¥á may have no definitive role in the regeneration of rat bladder epithelium.
